College Outreach USA

Mission
Statement

College Outreach USA (COUSA) is dedicated to identifying qualified students, during their early years in middle and high school, who are from: a Minority group; and/or an Inner city; and/or a Low income family (MIL). Our goal is preparing, and ultimately having our students admitted to college. We provide information and services to these students at no charge.

ABOUT COUSA

CORPORATION BACKGROUND

College Outreach USA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 2011 and reinstated in 2017.

OUR ONGOING OBJECTIVES AS AN ORGANIZATION

To work co-operatively with high school administrators, other organizations, and people that support educational opportunity for MIL youth.

To develop a working relationship with the MIL students, their parents, counselors, administrators.

To bring colleges together to help enroll more MIL students.

OUR ONGOING OBJECTIVES FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

To humanize and personalize college as an institution, so that MIL students feel comfortable inquiring about and communicating with any and all prospective colleges.

To inform MIL students about all factors that affect college admission decisions, so that MIL students may act in their own best interest.

To acquaint MIL students and their parents with the college application process enabling them to take charge of their own application and ensure that deadlines and requirements are met.

To reduce the fear and misconception about financial aid, by familiarizing MIL students and parents with the basics of financial aid, and assuring them that any college will assign a financial aid representative to help them through the process.

To increase the likelihood of each MIL student applying to and attending a four-year college or university.

PROBLEMS TO BE ADDRESSED

MIL students continue to be under-represented in four-year colleges and universities. The reasons for this include:

  • Inadequate college resources in their high school.
  • The false assumption by many MIL students and their families that they are foreclosed from attending college for financial reasons.
  • A stigma associated with private and competitive colleges: that these colleges represent a wealthy social system in which MIL students fear they will not fit.

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to dramatically increase the numbers of MIL students applying to and enrolling in USA four-year colleges and universities.

To facilitate this goal, College Outreach USA provides encouragement, information, and support to MIL high school students in both college guidance and college placement.

While ideally we would like to reach all MIL students across the USA, we create small victories by focusing on specific urban areas one at a time.

EXPECTED OUTCOME

MIL students who do not consider college a possibility discover that they CAN attend college. MIL students who already plan to attend college will be empowered by knowing HOW to prepare and apply.

WHAT MAKES COLLEGE OUTREACH USA UNIQUE

Our unique approach comes from the fact that our college information in-person seminars, webinars, and virtual high school visits are conducted by our Deans and Directors of Admission, their staff members, a college alumnus/ae, as well as high school and independent guidance counselors aligned with College Outreach USA. Each in-person seminar, webinar and virtual high school visit is conducted by a college staff member and run by College Outreach USA staff and/or our Board Chair and Founder, Anthony F. Capraro III.

COLLEGE OUTREACH USA'S AFFIRMATIVE ACTION POLICY

College Outreach USA does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment on the basis of race, color, sex, gender (including gender identity and expression), pregnancy, religion, creed, national origin, age, alienage and citizenship, status as a perceived or actual victim of domestic violence, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, military status, partnership status, genetic predisposition or carrier status, arrest record, or any other legally protected status.

College Outreach USA operates on the fundamental principle of affirmative action, which is to redress imbalances due to disproportionate representation of underprivileged sections of College Outreach USA, specifically the underrepresentation of minority, inner city and low income youth enrolled in America’s institutions of higher education.
